To arrive, to look at the Tabernacle, to kneel down and to stay there.
To be silent, to listen and to hear the word of Christ: « Come! » The current is established and we see. It is as if all obstacles are removed, from the soul to the holy species, from the heart to the Heart of the Host.
It is a sweet moment, but it cannot last long. The distractions are pressing and divert a hundred times the thought which unceasingly turns over. But the will is fixed, and in spite of these continuous evolutions, the Eucharistic Heart is satisfied, it does not matter that I am satisfied.
Infidelity consists in getting tired of this pursuit and leaving before the time, or in looking for another easier way to unite oneself to the good God, as would be a reading or aspirations. One must remain there, looking at Our Lord. What do I see? Nothing really; and yet it is quite true that I am looking at something and that it is God whom I am looking at.
And if I persevere in looking, in tending, in loving, in gently pushing away the obstacle, in letting go, in letting the devil get tired without giving him a hold, well, my soul feels itself entering into another life, without being in the least removed from the present life.
It is sometimes an infinite plenitude – in the past an emptiness even more filled with God – a bath of silence and infinity – Nothing seen for the ordinary, nothing distinct. It is always a desert where one does not see the focus of light but a white clarity in this immense clarity that seems to be the capacity of a whole in the middle of which I swim and that fills me.
What Jesus wants to be for us in his Eucharistic Heart is the way, as he is the life when we receive him, as he is the truth when we look at him, the way to lead to God his Father in his infinite perfections.
The state of abandonment that leads us to lose ourselves in God must not make us forget the Holy Humanity of Christ, to whom we owe everything. Jesus remained here on purpose to be the vehicle of our souls between earth and heaven. He is like the God of time, between man and eternity, the direct, unique way to the Father…
… So he says: Come! I am in you, but come out of you with me and let us go to my Father. – Where? Higher up, but without effort, because you are with me; there, without going up, without digging, without searching; there, in that ocean where you float, impregnated with Him like a sponge fallen from the rock into the sea.
When the sponge still attached to the branch is bathed by the flow, it is in the Ocean, and the Ocean is in it. It can turn around and say: He is there. But torn off and thrown into the sea, it is the same thing and more.
What drags it along is the flow, because the flow leads to the ocean with which it is one, and in which it will merge, dragging along the little sponge to which it says: Come! and it will, full of him, throw itself even more into him, where there is more space and more water… , getting lost and dispersed in him to become as one with him by dint of being diminished, reduced to an atom, and disappearing !…
